Tooth Extraction

Tooth extractions are sometimes the best option when a tooth cannot be restored and keeping it in place would risk further infection or damage. At Shpritz Family Dental, extractions are performed with an emphasis on comfort, careful technique, and clear guidance so you feel prepared and supported throughout the process.

A tooth may need to be removed because of extensive decay, a fracture that extends below the gumline, advanced gum disease that has weakened support, or an infection that cannot be successfully treated. Extractions may also be recommended for problematic wisdom teeth, to create room for orthodontic movement, or as part of preparing for a denture or other restorative plan. Before treatment, your dentist will examine the area and take digital X-rays to understand the root structure and surrounding bone.

Most extractions are completed using local anesthetic to fully numb the tooth and nearby tissues. After the tooth is removed, you’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions to support healing and reduce the chance of complications. Common recommendations include biting on gauze to control bleeding, using cold compresses to manage swelling, eating soft foods, and avoiding smoking, straws, and vigorous rinsing to protect the blood clot.

Healing usually progresses quickly, but every patient is different. Your dentist will explain what to expect and when to call if symptoms feel unusual. In many cases, it’s important to plan for tooth replacement to prevent shifting and bite changes. Options may include implants, bridges, or partial dentures based on your needs.

Shpritz Family Dental takes a thoughtful approach to extractions—addressing the problem, supporting a smooth recovery, and helping you move forward with a healthier, more comfortable smile.
